"Tools for High School Success"
The first year of high school. Exciting, challenging and at times overwhelming. It takes students a while to adapt from primary school to the differences of high school. This evening is generally held once students have begun to settle into high school and are starting to look for ways to manage their time and homework more effectively. This 1.5 hour session gives parents and students hands on experience with time management techniques such as chunking down pieces of work, prioritising and scheduling – to avoid those stressful last minute late night rushes! We also examine an important skill that helps students achieve success in high school – making effective study notes. Why do we need to do study notes? When should you be doing them? How do you summarise? What techniques are most effective? This session does not cover the breadth of topics covered in the ‘Working Together For Success’ Evening but instead focuses on two areas in greater depth:
Parents can expect to gain a greater understanding of tools students can use to help them achieve academic success and students can learn how to make the most of their time through simple but effective techniques. As the session is very interactive and there are activities and discussions that are completed jointly, parents and students must attend together (and bring a pen each and a highlighter!).
This session is suitable for Year 7 students or Year 6 students as a preparation for high school.

"Working Together for Success"
The increasing pressure on today’s student for academic achievement highlights the need to develop effective study practices. These changes in education have made it difficult for parents to relate their experiences as a learner to those of modern students. As a result, many parents feel that there is more they could contribute to their student ’s academic success if they better understood how to help.
This evening session allows the school to offer parents the chance to learn more about how students should study and to discuss related issues with their student. Topics covered vary depending on the year group levels attending the evening. Some of the areas covered are:
This 1.5 hour evening session is conducted by ELES at your school for parents and students to attend together. The seminar brings a highly interactive and informative approach to study skills. Parents gain a greater understanding of what students are required to do at home and students can learn how to maximise their study through simple but effective techniques. Parents and students must attend together as there are a number of interactive and discussion based activities– no parents without students, no students without parents! And bring pens! (Note: there is also a 1 hour version of this evening available.)
"Maximising Your Results"
This evening is really targeting senior students. It covers all the areas mentioned above in the 'Working Together for Success Evening' but also examines the steps students need to take to achieve the best results they are capable of in the final years of school. Some of the areas covered are:
In some ways this evening is like visiting a 'study skills doctor' where parents and students work together to establish which of the habits of high achievers their student already has and what they need to change for the last two years of school.
