Staff Professional Development Session

"Helping Students Develop Effective Study Skills"

This session is suitable for a high school staff meeting or staff professional development day. The session can be tailored to the time available although preferred length of time is 60-80 minutes.

Some of the areas covered are:

• Helping students organise and manage their papers.
• Study notes: how, when, why and what!
• Making study active with emphasis on learning styles.
• Helping the brain: what the latest research has to say.
• Fostering time management skills.
• Overcoming obstacles to success.

The aim of the session is twofold:

1. To increase teachers' knowledge and understanding of effective study skills.

2. To demonstrate practical ways teachers can help improve study skills within the classroom environment.

ELES is based in Sydney. Schools outside of the Sydney area may also need to pay travel and accommodation costs to arrange sessions at a time that is convenient to the school.

Additional travel/petrol costs may apply for schools outside of capital cities.
