ONLINE STUDY SKILLS HANDBOOK WEBSITE - SPECIAL OFFER VALID FOR TERM 4 2008

If you haven’t had a look yet – you should! The more different ways we can bring study skills to life the better and this is a fabulous resource for students, parents and teachers at your school to have access to. The beauty of an online resource is that it keeps developing - over the last year there have been fabulous new features added. For around $1 per student (for most schools) every student, parent and teacher gets unlimited access for a full year to www.studyskillshandbook.com.au  - an online and interactive study skills resource with quizzes, videos, audio files and more! Students and parents can browse the site at home or schools can integrate the 26 units (with accompanying worksheets) into their pastoral program.

Special offer: Schools that sign up before the end of the year get the use of the handbook for the rest of this term and over the holidays at the end of this year for FREE and also are waived from the joining fee.

Thanks to Rocky Biasi of Human Connections for these great tips.

1. Get to know their interests
2. Get into kid culture - watch films, listen to the music so that you have something to talk about with them
3. Ask colleagues who already have a positive relationship to 'recommend' you
4. Spend time with students at breaks or in 'after-school clubs'
5. Organise and take part in trips and visits
6. Use their interests - share stories, give them something that will interest them (websites, articles, books, magazines, pictures etc.)
7. Give them a responsibility in class
8. Build a positive relationship with their parents
9. Mark work promptly with good personal feedback
10. Always be on the lookout to praise wanted behaviour
11. Act is if you're pleased to see them - greet them with a smile and a handshake and a few pleasant words
12. Thank them at the end of the lesson
13. Stop for a chat in the corridor
14. Remember it takes time - don't give up!
15. Have lunch with them
16. Set up break time clubs in your room and encourage them to come along
